There’s a profound truth that lies at the very heart of the voice over
world. especially today. The truth is, you don’t have. To have a great
voice to be a voice over. back in the 80’s way before my time, to be
a voice over was a highly skilled job. You’d need a voice modelled on
God, be able to command any accent thrown at you at the drop of a hat.

Those days are gone and today you can specialise. I specialise really
in the area of young voices, ordinary guy, the voice of the listener,
cool, clubby, dry ironic. the BBC seem to have categorized my voice as
“light entertainment.”. That’s ok I don’t mind. I get to do strictly
come dancing, endless re runs of top gear, only fools and horses,
vicar of dibley etc. I only ever have done one documentary for the
BBC on space and universes. the channel was BBC documentary. think
they cast me wrong but I did my best.

So today you don’t need accents, rather just know your place. And then
make sure you make the most of every opportunity
